Virtual Reality – currently one of hottest topics in the technology sector.
Obviously, there’s a major focus on entertainment apps, but Virtual Reality (VR) technology also has enormous potential for business purposes – particularly in the construction and architecture industries where VR offers a wide range of possible applications.
One of the biggest challenges in the development of building projects is the deployment and discussion of the design progress between the developer, the architect and the involved project teams. Construction project teams are usually quite large, its team members do have different competencies and not everyone involved is able to picture a whole building or even just a room only based on technical construction drawings. The use of virtual 3D environments enables every team member to experience the project’s progress and creates a basis for a profound and constructive discussion.
In order to simplify the cooperation between planning teams, project managers and clients and thus optimizing the coordination and discussion of designs, we have developed REVIZ.
REVIZ is a web-based revision tool for process-related presentation and discussion of construction projects in the virtual space. At any given time during the projects´s development, 3D renderings can be exported from the CAD software and shared between the project team via REVIZ – as a usual 3D visualization, 360° panoramic views or even as an interactive virtual reality environment.
Using the REVIZ mobile app and a VR headset, all team members can view the design in a virtual 3D environment to get a realistic impression of the project progress. Comments, questions and requests for change are stored directly in the corresponding areas within the 3D environment, organized in a chronological discussion and can be checked off just like on a to-do-list. The various visualizations of a project can be linked with hot spots for easily adding virtual tours through complex projects. Additionally, the visualizations are organized in revisions, providing a seamless documentation of the whole design process.
